You have probably seen other portable brake controller units and thought what is the difference between ours and theirs?

Simple! Firstly, with our in house designed and manufactured dial mounting system this makes this tiny bite sized unit one of the most compact and easy to operate unit on the market today. All other units on the market today require the control unit to be mounted under the dash area this can be tricky in modern vehicles with airbags and may interfere with their deployment, our unit can simply be sat in the console within reach of the driver.

Secondly, it’s the quality!   All the components have been carefully selected and meticulously assembled and tested onsite in our fully equipped workshop/showroom to make the highest quality kits. Nobody else has our dial mounting system. You can feel confident we have the product knowledge and fitting expertise to help guide you through the many options available and workout the very best solution for your towing requirements.

Aussie Brake Controllers is one of Australia’s leaders in electric braking designs and solutions with 30 plus year experience in the automotive trade and we are one of Australian ONLY suppliers of ADR compliant and ESC compatible portable electric brake controller systems.

If you have a company car and are not allowed to permanently install any device. This setup is the most affordable option and is a perfect solution The no mounting setup means this unit can be mounted using 3M or similar adhesive which will not leave any marks on your interior and the brake unit can be removed from the vehicle with ease or even simpler yet just sat in the console area.

If sometimes you use multiple vehicles to tow a caravan or trailer or would like to share with family or friends, this setup would still be a great option here as it’s the most affordable option and easy to use. You can quite easily roll up this system when finished towing and switch the brake unit between each vehicle as required.

We have been asked are portable brake controller systems legal, yes, the Australian Law regarding towing a trailer states the following:

A trailer with a GMV of between 2000kg-4500kg must have brakes on all axles. (Most caravans will have electric brakes on all axles) The trailer braking can be progressively increased and decreased by means of a control signal from the tow vehicle. That the trailer brakes can be applied from the drivers seated position. That the in-cab controller has a brake over-ride device. All of our portable kits comply to these standards.

Instruction manual

Roadpower RPBC4000

The RPBC4000 is a fully proportional trailer braking system delivering power to the trailer brakes in direct ratio to the actual physical deceleration of the tow vehicle. The unit also works proportionally in reverse for backing into tight spots. Equipped with three level “Boost” functionality, RPBC4000 allows you to incrementally increase the sensitivity of the brake control’s inertial sensor further enhancing the participation of trailer brakes during a brake event.

.1. Simply sit the brake controller unit in the centre console area with in arms reach of the driver in case adjustments or emergency trailer brake application is required.

· 2. Connect the 4 wire plug to the back of the Guardian IQ brake unit.

· 3. Connect the cigarette power plug to the vehicles 12v socket.

· 4. Run the 6m length of cable from the brake unit to the rear of the vehicle feeding the cable through a safe path.

· 5. Drop the lead out of the boot lid, tailgate or rear door
Caution, do not pinch or damage the cable during this process.

· 6. Connect the trailer plug to the vehicle & connect the trailer to the other plug

· 7. Turn on vehicles ignition and follow the RPBC4000 instruction manual to set the power setting to 5.0 by holding the manual override fully to the left & rotate the power knob.

· Test brakes at a standstill position by applying the manual override while a secondary person listens to the trailer wheels to ensure the electronic brake magnets are operating. You should hear a buzzing noise coming from the trailer wheel hubs as brake power is applied.

· To test braking level is suitable for your towing weight drive the tow vehicle and trailer on a dry level & solid surface at roughly 40kph and fully apply the manual override.

· – If the brakes lock up, turn the adjustment control to a lower setting

· – If the braking was not sufficient, turn the adjustment control to a higher setting
Repeat the tow brake test until the adjustment control is set at a point just below trailer wheel lock up.

**** Note always make sure when using the Portable electric brake controller that there are no other accessories running off the same accessory socket, this will impair the brake controller’s efficiency and may reduce the overall braking force applied to the trailer that is being towed.

If towing a dual axle trailer it is recommended that you use a 15Amp 12V accessory socket as your accessory plug-in point as a MOST standard vehicle accessory points are rated at 10Amp and this will not allow you to brake at 100% braking force with more than a single axle braking system. If you do not follow this guide, you risk blowing fuses and causing other electrical faults. ****
