The wheel indicators are placed over the top of the wheel nut once it has been torqued to the correct specification.

They should be aligned with each other in a regular pattern that allows individual indicators to freely rotate should the wheel nut loosen.

When or if a wheel nut loosens the indicators will turn with the nuts thus breaking the pattern & visibly identifying a safety hazard.
